If you have a Mighty Mule gate opener component that needs welding or fabrication work, we can usually turn it around same day at our Orlando shop, with most jobs landing between $150 and $400 depending on the piece and the extent of the repair. That’s the short answer. The longer answer is that Mighty Mule parts fail in specific, predictable ways down here, and knowing which failure you’re dealing with is half the battle.
Most Orlando owners discover their Mighty Mule needs welding or fabrication the hard way: the gate starts sagging, the opener bracket cracks, or a weld pops on the mounting plate after months of daily use on a heavy gate. Sometimes it’s a slow creak that turns into a snap. Sometimes it’s the gate suddenly sitting an inch lower on one side. Either way, you’re here because something metal gave out, and you need it fixed without buying a whole new opener.
We’re Calder Gate Repair, an independent gate repair specialist inside the Relay Home Co. family, and we’re not affiliated with Mighty Mule. We work on their stuff every week because Orlando has a lot of Mighty Mule openers on residential gates, and those openers have a lot of metal parts under real stress.
Which Mighty Mule Models This Applies To
This covers the full spread of Mighty Mule openers you’ll find on Orlando driveways: the MM371W, MM372W, MM571W, MM572W, and the older FM500, FM502, MM260, MM360, and MM462 series. If your Mighty Mule was made in the last 15 years, chances are it’s on this list. The compatibility gotcha in Florida isn’t the electronics. It’s hardware corrosion from humidity, salt air if you’re near the coast, and constant rain exposure eating at the powder coat and stress points.
The key identification step is the model number printed on the control board cover and on the arm itself. But for welding and fabrication, the real detail is whether you have the single arm (MM371W, MM571W, FM500) or the dual arm setup (MM372W, MM572W, MM360, MM462). The dual arms use different brackets, hinge points, and stress loads. A fabrication repair on a single arm bracket is a different job from reinforcing the hinge mount on a dual setup.
On the OEM versus aftermarket question: for Mighty Mule specifically, we generally recommend the factory bracket and bracket hardware. The aftermarket arms and universal brackets we’ve tried in the field run into the same issue the OEM parts have, just slower or faster depending on weight and exposure. The real fix on a cracked or sagging Mighty Mule bracket is to weld and reinforce what’s there, or fabricate a replacement from thicker stock. That’s cheaper than the OEM arm assembly and often lasts longer than the original, especially with a proper primer and industrial paint job for Florida humidity.

Signs Your Mighty Mule Welding & Fabrication Is Failing
- The gate sags or leans visibly when it stops. This almost always traces back to a failing weld or a cracked bracket at the hinge side. The opener is still pushing, but the gate’s weight has shifted onto the welds instead of the hinge hardware.
- You hear a metallic groan or popping sound when the gate moves. That sound is metal flexing under load. It means a weld has partially separated or a bracket is bending. It will not get better on its own.
- The opener arm visibly pulls away from the gate or post at the mounting point. Once a mounting bolt hole wallows out or the bracket starts tearing, the arm moves in a way it was never designed to. Left long enough, it bends the arm itself, and then the repair doubles in price.
- The gate jerks or hesitates mid travel. Jerking usually means the arm is binding because a weld has shifted geometry. The opener is fighting itself, which is how you kill a perfectly good control board.
- You see rust blooms or paint bubbling around brackets and welds. In Orlando, this is the canary in the coal mine. The weld is intact today, but the corrosion has already started working into the steel. We’d rather reinforce it now than replace the whole assembly after the next big storm.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
In Orlando, most Mighty Mule welding and fabrication work runs between $150 and $400 installed. The price swings on three things: whether we’re repairing or replacing the bracket, how much reinforcement the existing metal needs, and whether the arm itself has damage from running with a bad bracket. If you bent the arm too, you’re adding an arm assembly to the ticket.
Here’s how that typically breaks down:
- Weld repair on an existing bracket: $150 to $250
- Fabricate and install a new reinforced bracket: $250 to $400
- Arm or hinge mount replacement with the above: add $80 to $150 in parts
Every quote is written before any work starts. That’s a Calder rule, not an upsell. You get the number in writing, you approve it, and that’s the number on the invoice. If we open the job and the damage is bigger than we expected, we stop, call you, and send a revised written quote before we turn another bolt. And every repair carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the repair fails within 365 days, we come back at no charge. That’s stated in writing on every job.
DIY or Call Us?
You should not weld Mighty Mule gate hardware yourself unless you’re a competent welder with experience doing structural gate repair. Not because we want the work, but because the brackets and hinge mounts on Mighty Mule arms are load-bearing steel under tension. A weak weld on a 300 pound gate becomes a missile when the gate swings in a wind gust. Orlando gets weather, and gates catch wind like sails. If a weld lets go, the gate can swing hard and fast.
What you can do safely: check the bracket bolts for tightness, photograph the damage from a few angles, and check whether the gate itself is still swinging freely by hand when you disconnect the opener. That last part tells us whether we’re fixing the bracket or also fixing the gate alignment. If the weld is cracked, the bracket is bending, or the arm is no longer sitting flush, call us at (850) 338-6230. A live person answers, 24/7, and we’ll tell you whether it’s a same day fix or a fabricate-and-return job before you spend a dime.
FAQs
Around 5 to 7 years before rust and load stress become a real problem, depending on gate weight and exposure. We see heavy single piece wooden gates kill brackets in 3 to 4 years, while lighter aluminum tube gates with good drainage can go 8 or more.
Often yes, if the crack is confined to a weld seam and the surrounding steel is still sound. If the metal itself is torn or heavily corroded, we fabricate a new bracket from thicker stock, which is still less than a full arm assembly. Call (850) 338-6230 and we’ll tell you straight.
A bracket re-weld runs 45 minutes to 2 hours. Fabricating a new bracket adds roughly 2 to 3 hours. Most jobs are done same day when we have the parts on the truck and the gate can be safely disconnected while we work.
We keep the common Mighty Mule wear items on the truck, and we also stock the popular aftermarket equivalents when they match or beat the OEM part. If it’s an oddball model, we can usually source it within a day or two through our local Orlando suppliers.
