We stock and install DoorKing-compatible welding and fabrication components throughout Orlando, with most jobs priced between $220 and $680 before parts. If your gate’s weld points are cracking, the hinge plates are pulling loose, or a bracket has sheared off the post, we can usually have it re-welded and reinforced the same day we diagnose it. What most Orlando owners notice first is a gate that sags an inch or two on the hinge side and drags across the driveway.
Welding and fabrication for a DoorKing gate isn’t just sticking metal together. It’s matching the original gauge steel, knowing which brackets DoorKing engineered for which opener series, and understanding how Florida’s humidity and afternoon thunderstorms accelerate rust at every stress point. Nico Alvarez and our Orlando crew have repaired enough cracked hinge welds and torn post brackets across the metro, from Dr. Phillips to Winter Park, to know exactly where these gates fail first.
Which DoorKing Models This Applies To
Most of the welding and fabrication work we do in Orlando involves DoorKing slide gates and swing gates from the 6000, 9000, and 1600 series, plus a fair number of older 4300 and 4500 operators still in service on commercial properties. The hinge brackets, post plates, and gate frame gussets on these models share common dimensions across series, but there’s one compatibility gotcha worth knowing: a DoorKing 1600-series swing gate uses a different hinge plate bolt pattern than the 6000 series, so we always measure the existing bracket before cutting anything.
If you’re replacing a cracked weld plate or hinge bracket, you have two paths. OEM DoorKing weldments are factory-spec and hold up well, but they can take longer to source and cost more. Quality aftermarket equivalents, when fabricated to the same gauge and geometry, are often on our truck and can be installed the same day. We’ll walk you through both options with written pricing before anything gets welded, and we’ll tell you honestly if an aftermarket piece doesn’t match the original spec. Calder Gate Repair Orlando is an independent service provider; we’re not affiliated with DoorKing, though we work on their equipment constantly, alongside LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls openers.

Signs Your DoorKing Welding & Fabrication Is Failing
- The gate sags or drags on the hinge side. This almost always means the hinge weld has stretched or the post plate is pulling away. You’ll hear it scraping before you see it.
- Visible rust bleeding from a weld point. In Orlando’s humidity, a hairline crack lets water in and rust out. The orange streak running down from a bracket is the giveaway that the weld has already separated underneath.
- A clunk or clank when the gate starts or stops. That’s the gate shifting against a loose bracket. The opener is doing its job, but the metal it’s attached to isn’t holding.
- The gate leans toward the opener or away from it. Post plates that have stretched or broken their welds let the entire gate lean, which throws the opener’s limit switch out of alignment over time.
- Fresh paint around the hinges but the gate still wobbles. Some owners paint over a failing weld thinking it’s just cosmetic. If the gate moves more than a half inch when you push on it, the weld beneath that paint is gone.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
Here’s what welding and fabrication typically runs in Orlando, depending on the scope:
- Single hinge plate re-weld and reinforcement: $180 to $300
- Hinge bracket replacement (parts plus labor): $240 to $420
- Post plate fabrication and installation: $300 to $520
- Full hinge side rebuild with new plates and gussets: $480 to $680
Every price is written and agreed to before the first weld. You’ll know the parts cost, the labor cost, and the total before we spark an arc. The work is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if that weld fails or the bracket loosens within a year, we come back and fix it at no charge. That’s not a vague warranty, it’s a written guarantee on every job.
DIY or Call Us?
Welding a gate frame or hinge plate isn’t a beginner’s project, and we’re not going to pretend it is. The metal on a DoorKing gate is under constant load when the gate moves, and an incomplete or cold weld can snap without warning, sending a heavy gate swinging or falling. Beyond the immediate danger, a bad weld often causes more damage than the original crack because it hides the problem behind a skin of new metal. If you can see a visible crack, a rust streak, or the gate sags, call us.
What you can safely do before we arrive: note where the crack is, measure the distance from the ground to the bottom of the gate at both ends, and take a photo of the weld. That information helps us arrive with the right steel and the right tools. For anything beyond a visual inspection, call (850) 338-6230 and we’ll schedule a time that works.
FAQs
A properly reinforced weld on a DoorKing gate in Orlando typically lasts 8 to 12 years, though gates near irrigation overspray or in low-lying areas may need attention sooner. The original factory welds often start failing between years 7 and 10 in Florida’s humidity. If a weld has been re-done once already and failed again, the problem is usually the underlying metal’s thickness, which is why we reinforce rather than just re-weld. Call (850) 338-6230 for an assessment.
Sometimes yes, and sometimes that’s a bad bet. A hairline crack in a thick plate can often be ground out and welded, but if the plate has rusted thin or the bolt holes have stretched, welding won’t restore its strength. We’ll inspect the metal thickness and give you an honest recommendation, with the repair price and the replacement price side by side. You’ll know both numbers before you choose.
Most single-point hinge or bracket repairs in Orlando are completed in two to three hours on site, including preparation, welding, and cooling time. Full hinge-side rebuilds with new gussets can run four to six hours. We’ll give you a written time estimate when we quote the price, and our technicians arrive with a live, trackable arrival time so you’re not waiting on a four-hour window.
We keep the most common DoorKing hinge plates, post brackets, and gusset stock on our service vehicles, covering the 6000, 9000, and 1600 series. Uncommon or OEM-only pieces are ordered same-day and installed once they arrive. If we don’t have your exact part on the truck, we’ll tell you before we drive over, not after.
